Picture two music players on a store shelf in 2006.
One is the iPod, the one everybody seems to have.
The other is the brand-new Microsoft Zune, with a bigger screen and wireless song sharing.
On paper, the Zune had the better features.
But it still failed with consumers.
The iPod stayed on top, and Microsoft eventually discontinued the Zune.
So what went wrong?
The product wasn't the problem. The positioning was.
The way you present your offer matters more than the offer itself.
Apple had been selling iPods for five years by the time the Zune showed up.
By then, Apple had positioned the iPod as the thing you carry your entire music library on.
The Zune was just another MP3 player.
Better specs didn't matter.
A funnel does that work for you.
It frames your offer, answers doubts, and walks people from "maybe" to "yes" without you in the room.
Your product might already be good enough.
So how is it coming across?
This post covers why your funnel can matter more than your product, what some of the biggest brands got wrong, and how to pitch your offer so it converts.
